” The one thing we most urgently need in Western Christendom is a deeper knowledge of God. We need to know God better. We think rather little of what He is like, what He expects of us, what He seeks in us. We are not captured by His holiness and His love; His thoughts and words capture too little of our imagination, too little of our discourse, too few of our priorities.” Carson – A Call to Spiritual Reformation” pp. 15f

Do you long to love as Jesus loves? Do you long to have the Word of God dwelling in you more richly? Are you tired of your pride and sin and will you seek the face of God to be healed? And do those longings demonstrate themselves in fasting – from food, and entertainment and sleep and leisure – for a season so you may pray? Do you mourn for the world and the state of the church? And will you pray and not stop praying until He blesses us?

Then They Will Fast

The early church was plagued by spiritual sleepiness, lovelessness, coldness, heresy, materialism, … and nowhere do we ever see a single text of Scripture saying “pray for revival”. What we do see is God instructing churches to repent, know God better, hear the Word of God, live in obedience to the Scriptures, to overcome … . So, when we talk about revival we are talking about the church being all that God calls us to be and God doing something special in converting the lost and renewing His people. Continue reading
